I am looking to adopt a standard for identifying the presence of a generator at a facility or residence at or near the main power disconnect. I have spoken with CEI and they currently have no requirement for labeling. I am proposing a label that would be used to inform responders that an onsite power generator is present and additional measures may be needed to ensure complete power shut down. I would like to suggest a sticker that incorporates the same symbol for a generator that is used on electrical drawings - a circle with a "G" in the center.
Has anyone found or is using a standard for labeling generators, either at the meter base or the main disconnect? Please email Rob Crowe at: fpo@rrcity.com
I am interested in communities/cities that have established a Fire Watch ordinance. I have written an ordinance for in the event that we need to use our firefighters on overtime for a Fire Watch (e.g. the city will be reimbursed $50 per man per hour, minimum of two men, by the building owner or building representative). We've had to face this situation a few times and the city had to incur the costs. Our council would like to know if other cities have established the language for this type of ordinance already.
Any information would be appreciated, please email Steve Ineman at: fire2706@sbcglobal.net
We are interested in updating requirements regarding installation of residential smoke detectors in existing housing. We would like to see ordinances from other communities.
Please fax ordinances to Jerry Senger at Ashtabula FD at: (440) 992-2691
I am looking for inupt regarding smoke detector giveaway programs in other communities. Specifically, what type of detector technology are you using in your programs? (e.g. Ionization, Photoelectric, or a combination detector)
We had a fire that involved clothing that was recently removed from a clothes dryer and was sprayed with "Axe" body spray. An article in 'Hot Issues' Juvenile Firesetter periodical indicated that some kids (teens) were using this body spray to create torches. The spray contains butane. I'm looking for information on the likelihood of spontaneous ignition of clothing removed from a clothes dryer.
Our Fire Prevention bureau is considering legislation requiring bars and restaurants to take out a permit to cook outside the building if they are using commercial sized grills, BBQs and smokers. Does anyone control this activity in their city? Do you have any suggestions on handling this type of situation? Your input on this mater would be greatly appreciated.
