NEOFPA & nbfaa scholarships

The North East Ohio Fire Prevention Assocation (NEOFPA) Scholarship Program is open to any contributing NEOFPA member in good standing whose son or daughter (either natural, adopted, or ward) is an incoming freshman or is presently attending an accredited university or college. The program of study shall be for either a four-year or a two-year degree. The award will be made based upon the applicant’s merit potential following an evaluation by the NEOFPA Scholarship Committee. The Committee’s decision is final.

EVALUATION CRITERIA: Applicants will be evaluated on the following items:

1. A completed Application Form (signed and dated by the applicant and parent/guardian who is a NEOFPA contributing member) received on or before November 1, of the current year.

2. All required attachments to the Application Form, including:
i) Official grade transcript(s)
ii) Official SAT, ACT or other qualifying test scores
iii) A handwritten or typed 250-word essay on “The Importance of Public Service”
iv) A letter of acceptance to an accredited university or college, and/or evidence that the applicant is presently enrolled in a course of study

3. A personal interview may be requested if the Committee needs more information.

4. Evaluation factors that are considered important include high school grades, previous college transcripts, test scores (SAT, ACT, etc.), special academic recognition or honors, school activities, outside activities, a written essay, current or previous work experience and a completed Application Form.

AWARD NOTIFICATION: The successful Awardees will be notified by mail by the
Scholarship Committee by December 1 of the current year. Separate awards may be made for four-year and two-year degreed programs. Awards will be presented at the December Meeting (location to be announced).

FINAL NOTICE: NEOFPA members with college-bound sons or daughters are encouraged to participate to make this program a success. Please contact anyone on the Committee if you have any questions. Good luck!

The National Burglar & Fire Alarm Assocation (NBFAA) Youth Scholarship Program provides $21,000 in scholarships annually to children of police officers and firefighters. Applicants are judged on their academic achievements, community activities and essay written about their law enforcement or firefighter parent. To date, NBFAA has awarded more than $270,000 in scholarships.
